Your Baby Doctor: Picking a Pediatrician
by Stefanie Wilder-Taylor
Relationships with chosen service providers are often sacred. Think of the secrets our stylists could tell! With her infallible wit, best-selling author Stefanie Wilder-Taylor takes on the task of picking Baby’s first -- and primary -- service provider, the pediatrician. |
Choosing your pediatrician is an important decision you will need to make in the months before you pop out your baby. Or so you will be told over and over. I’m certainly not disputing that you should have a pediatrician that you like and trust.
But contrary to what all the books say and what you read on the web, choosing a pediatrician does not need to be a full time job. I’ve heard and read the same advice ad nauseam: before choosing a doctor for your unborn child; go gather a bunch of names, narrow it down to a few dozen and then interview all of those pediatricians so you can find one that meets a long checklist of criteria.
Who has this kind of time on their hands?
Here’s the thing, you’re not selecting a roommate. Even in bad circumstances you won’t be seeing this person everyday. They won’t be camped out on your couch eating your left-over Thai food and watching Oprah. You’re going to be seeing them for twenty minutes three times a year so it’s not important that you match every answer on a Cosmo magazine compatibility test.
