When it comes to grandparenting with panache, our Moms could write a book! Their tips on giving advice (without being pushy), helping out (without stepping on toes), and finding your inner photographer (despite protests) are a sure fire way to keep family-time fun!

Seven Tips for Gracious Grandparenting
from the PoshCravings Mamas’ Mamas!

Can the critiques, create compliments.
Nursery themes. Baby names. Birth plans. New parents have so many decisions to make. If your child and his/her partner are kind enough to share their baby-related ideas and intentions, offer only positive reinforcement. Otherwise, be ready to be left out of future conversations.

Don't ask, just do.
Who doesn't want their laundry done? Their kitchen floor mopped? Their dinner prepared? Asking a new mama if you can do such tasks only reminds her they need doing. Not to mention you are inadvertently insulting her housekeeping skills. Be a motivated grandma. When you see something obvious - especially if it's unpleasant - that needs tending to, just do it. Once done, resist the urge to let her know you did. (Of course, if she drops hints that she would rather not have the help, back off.)

Find your inner photographer.
Take plenty of pictures of your daughter/daughter-in-law with the new baby. Make a point to get the newly-expanded nuclear family together in-frame often. Accept no protest from new mama about how she looks. (There's always that delete key on your digital camera and the power of Photoshop.) Let her know she's never been so beautiful and snap those photos! You'll all be grateful later.
