Matte: creates a dry, flat look.
ANGIE’S TIP:
This is the longest lasting because it lacks the slick stuff. It will also wear off more evenly than the others.
Glaze: sheer lipstick with a touch of shine.
ERIKA’S TIP:
Doesn’t last very long, but provides a nice translucent shiny finish.
Cream: provides opaque coverage.
ANGIE’S TIP:
It’s not as sheer as a glaze or opaque as a matte, and it provides a soft feel on the lips -- not dry, like the matte.
Texture: Create texture to your makeup application by using either a gloss or a matte finish product. You can also use these textures to switch up your usual favorite color.
Gloss:
Glow: This healthy and natural look includes lip balms like those from Kiehl’s, Softlips and Blistex.
GEOFF’S TIP:
You can still use a nude lip liner when you’re seeking a ‘natural look.’ The lip liner will give your lips shape, but you’ll maintain your fresh and clean face.
Glitter: Use a different color to alter your lip color. Particles catch the light and sparkle.
Shiny and Glossy: To give your lips a wet look!
ANGIE’S TIP:
To remove excess texture, blot your inner lip with a tissue or slide your index finger through your puckered lips.
Matte: To create a matte texture, you can use a product (MAC makes a matte texture gel) or you can use a blotting paper or film.
ERIKA’S TIP:
If you have a cream color that you want to use to create a flat/matte look, apply the color and then blot with a blotting film (normally used to remove oil from the skin) to remove access shine and congratulations! You made a matte lipstick!
STEPHANIE’S TIP:
Use 1-ply tissue and lightly lay it over your lips and brush loose powder over the tissue with a large powder brush. This will help tone down the shine and also set your color.
