Secrets of a Ski Diva
|
After noticing that not only do men seem to outnumber women on the slopes, but that the skiing market catered almost exclusively to the male perspective, Wendy Clinch embarked upon a mission. Now widely known as “The Ski Diva,” she expertly hosts TheSkiDiva.com, a popular interactive community for female skiers. Before she hit the lifts, she took the time to answer some of my ski-centric questions… |
What is your indispensible item as The Ski Diva?
My skis, obviously! I actually have three pair: an all-mountain ski, which is built to handle a variety of conditions and terrain; a powder ski -- this is designed to help you float through deep, deep snow; and my "rock" skis, an old pair for early and late season, when the snow cover on the mountain is thin. I don't want to ruin my good pairs!
Your favorite locale in which to ski?
I love skiing Vermont, because it's home. The old, eroded mountains, the picturesque villages, the sense of history. This is where skiing began in the United States. All of this really speaks to me. I've skied in lots of different places, and nothing does it for me like the Green Mountain State.
Where is your dream -- as yet not visited -- destination to ski?
There are so many great ski areas that I'd love to visit. Big Sky in Montana, Fernie and Kicking Horse in Canada, Heavenly in California, and the Canyons in Utah. So many mountains, so little time. And then there's Europe to consider!
In your view, which destination is the most amenable for families and why?
Smugglers Notch in Vermont has a tremendous reputation as a fantastic place for families. They're well known for their kids' program, plus they have great terrain for grown ups, too. So there's something for everyone. In the west, it's Steamboat for the same reasons.
