Take Two!
Allie talks twins with actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon

I have never been the mama to do interviews. It comes so naturally to the others, especially Syd. But when I found out that Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon was expecting twins, I decided to take the plunge! A phone interview with a fellow mama of multiples was a great way to get my feet wet.

When the gorgeous Garcelle answers her cell phone, she is in the parking lot of the DMV. Her son Oliver is inside, attempting his driver’s permit test for the second time. Garcelle is literally holding her breath, waiting to see her son’s face when he exits the building…

Congratulations! You are about to be doubly-blessed with twins! I remember how I felt when I found out about my terrific twosome, Mai and Ringo, but how did you feel when you found out you were having a multiple birth?
I was a little nervous and excited, but then I thought, "Oh my God, what does that even entail?" Until they're here, I don't really think we know what we're getting into - we'll just have to wing it! But my sister and my aunt have twins, so it definitely runs in the family!

As mother to 16-year-old Oliver, you have the advantage of being a veteran mama. What will you do differently with your infants this time?
I am definitely going to do some things differently. When Oliver was born he was a single child, and I was a single parent for a lot of the time, so he got what he wanted. Things I plan to do differently this time are: less TV, more reading, because Oliver never wants to read now...I mean, I was already strict, but they'll have less choices, and things will be more about not just going out and getting something because you want it, but because you earned it, with chores...I already told Oliver, don't tell your little brothers how good you had it, cause they won't have it the same way!

How does Oliver feel about becoming a big brother?
You know, with such an age difference, I wasn't sure how Oliver would take the news, but he was so excited! He was very happy that it was going to be two boys - he was texting everybody. I don't know if he would have been as excited if it were going to be girls!
