Eliza: With your insider knowledge, who do you see as the “up and coming” designer(s) for mamas-to-be?
Liza: I believe that eco-friendly entrepreneurs are the next wave in maternity. The world is ready to wear organic clothes that are sexy yet comfortable on the skin. Recycling them once you’re done is a must!
Eliza: Do the models you represent typically have modeling experience pre-pregnancy, or do they come to it “mid-glow?"
Liza: Most -- if not all -- Expecting Models have experience. Modeling is a skill, and not for everyone. Being comfortable in front of a camera amongst tons of producers, directors and photographers can be intimidating. Freedom of movement and posing in character is not an easy task, especially pregnant. Models have to flip the switch and become that beautiful, sexy, shy, leading lady or girl next door in seconds.
Clients paying top dollar don't want to spoon feed you poses to get the look they need. They expect you to come in and dazzle them. It's your job as a model to fulfill the needs of a client's advertising campaign, so being inexperienced would be the equivalent of a teacher not knowing what a lesson plan is.
Eliza: What is your advice to mamas-to-be who perhaps don’t feel as “glowy” as the lovely models with whom you work? Is there something external they can do to improve their self-image?
Liza: Make sure to eat right, exercise and make a special effort to look your best. Not everyone is a model and that's okay. We are still beautiful women in the process of doing the most important task in this world. Enjoy your process and know that it's yours. It belongs to you and you are right and perfect just as God created you. Don't take everything too seriously. Enjoy a good laugh!
Eliza: What do you consider a guaranteed “feel good” item for mamas with bodies in flux?
Liza: One good wrap dress will take you through your entire pregnancy. If you are in the middle of a winter pregnancy, good designer jeans and a black turtleneck can be a staple and timeless.
