We are always looking for new fab finds! Please tell us about your faves du jour.
Gina: We love items that are designed well and especially when they can grow with the child. One of our favorites is the Svan highchair. It is a beautiful, cool Scandinavian design. Also, it converts from an infant highchair to a toddler chair. Both seats are at table level, which allows the chair to be pushed right up to the table with the rest of the family.
Also, we love Myself Belts. They have stylish floral patterns for girls and camouflage for boys. Kids love them because they can put them on and adjust them themselves.
Penny: I'm very excited about so much right now, so I'll try hit the highlights! For newborns, my favorite organic sleeping gown is from Sage Creek Organics. The gown part makes changing a diaper painless, and I think anything organic is worth buying. Sage Creek makes a simple gown in a mandarin color with a green dragonfly embroidered on the chest. All their products are made with organic cotton, and the colors, snaps and zippers are all tested to ensure the absence of contaminants such as nickel, lead, formaldehyde, amines, pesticides and heavy metals.
For infants, Splendid Littles clothing is so soft and comes in great colors. I wear Splendid, and although the line is priced a little higher than other cotton pieces, the quality is high and the feel is like silk.
For toddlers, Pink Chicken dresses - the fabrics and prints are amazing! The designer, Stacey Fraser, is a fashion industry veteran. She designs retro-inspired dresses that are bold and fun. Every little girl needs at least one bohemian-inspired dress from Pink Chicken.
Just for boys, Wonderboy. The moment I saw this line, I said, "I need to have a boy!" This line is like nothing else on the market. My favorite is the "chromosome" tee shirt with "XY" on the chest. It is a funny shirt but still a little dressy, and would look great layered under a Wonderboy western-style cowboy shirt.
You both have said how committed you are to fair-trade and social-consciousness. We Mamas are, too! Are there any designers whose philosophy you find as appealing as their fashion sensibility?
Gina: It is important to us to have a good selection of organic, fair-trade and socially responsible items, but at the same time, the items must be really stylish. In organics, we are just starting to see designers doing some really interesting things. We love Sckoon, Scout and Little Twigs bath products. Also, we’re big fans of Tea Collection – a socially responsible company that promotes global awareness with collections inspired by cultures around the world.
