The Business of Baboosh

Isabelle: I think you’re putting the right thing out there -- when you prioritize -- you put good out, you get good back. I firmly believe that.

Brooke: I do, too! And I think more and more businesswomen are having children…there’s a baby boom right now. I know I have accomplished more as a mother than I did prior to this stage in my life. I’m now actually maximizing on the opportunities of motherhood as well with my new business. There are endless opportunities for women now in all aspects. It’s just a matter of knowing what you want to do and making the commitment. Setting reasonable goals for yourself.

Isabelle: Knowing when to say yes and when to say no.

Brooke: Exactly. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

Isabelle: Now, your three daughters are all so beautifully named...

Brooke: Aw, thanks! We’re really challenged now trying to decide on the fourth one. The baby has a tough act to follow!

Isabelle: Have you been keeping a short list of names for the new baby?

Brooke: You know it’s tough. Following Neriah, Sierra and Rain, where do you really go from there?  It’s such a personal thing…I kind of want to meet the baby. David and I are pretty much in agreement, but then of course there are family issues as well -- it’s a positive thing, not a negative thing…you want to honor certain people.

Isabelle: The family naming thing is so tough because you may want to honor someone, but you don’t want to “dishonor” someone else by leaving them off...and then you get some supercalifragilisticexpialidocious name going…

Brooke: Exactly! (laughing)

Isabelle: You wore your previous expectancies and post-partum times so beautifully -- and you look so phenomenal now -- can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to start Baboosh Baby, and what your hopes are for the company?

Brooke: Sure! I was 35 when I had Rain. Having my third child, certainly it was worth the sacrifice, but really I wasn’t sure what was going to happen to my body. Women around the world, especially in the French culture, have been wrapping their bellies for thousands of years. David’s whole family is French, and they all said, “You really need to wrap your belly.”

So I went and did some research, and after Rain’s birth, I created a belly wrap called “Tauts.” I didn’t invent it; this philosophy’s been around forever. Japanese, Hindu, European women…everybody has been doing this, and it has so many positive aspects.
