Evaluating earthly endeavors with Isabelle
Gluttony is never the hallmark of a wholesome society. The all-too-subsequent cycle of binging and purging reflects a keen awareness that hyper-indulgence mandates balance -- yet rarely is the quick-fix the healthiest remedy. Case in point: The current proselytization of a superficial style of environmentally conscious living.
No goose-stepping toward "green" for me. Politically correct trends are fleeting. Personally convicted traditions last a lifetime.
Eco-friendliness should be guided by proactive adoration rather than past-tense penitence. Make choices that preserve and protect, revere and respect. Think Johnny Appleseed. Woodsy Owl. The Lorax.
Want to offset your footprint? The word "offset" certainly appeals to our consumption-aware but perpetually sinning psyche. Carbon contrition is more accurate. There is no undoing what’s already been done. We need to say a heartfelt "I’m sorry" to Mother Earth. As with any sincere apology, real repentance is made manifest by redirection of future behavior. Love means never having to say you’re sorry...twice.
Sure, the truth may be inconvenient; but as Spike Lee once admonished, do the right thing.
