Modern mamas -- and mamas-to-be -- readily recognize the names. The first three authors became stars in their own right. The latter three stars became authors in their own right.

The fame chain is a familiar one. Pageant contestants want to act. Actors want to direct. Directors want to sing. Singers want to model. And everyone, it seems everyone, wants to write a book.

We may critique their attire on the red carpet, ogle their paparazzi-snapped images in the tabloids and question the motivation of their choices professional, personal and political; but let’s honor their efforts to edify our kids. Gossip gadflies know those in the public eye typically possess an impressive intellect and have fascinating stories to tell.  A passion for the performing arts finds logical fruition upon children’s library shelves. As a star-gazing society, why not read their tales…for ourselves and for our little listening audience?

The phrase “Starry, starry night” used to evoke thoughts of Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpiece, or perhaps even the Don McLean lullaby-esque song honoring that iconic painting’s creator. Now, the words may more accurately refer to a bedtime story by a Hollywood heavyweight.
