Isabelle Contemplates Clothing for the Cocooning
My affinity for fashion started young: the cover-to-cover perusings of Seventeen, Vogue, W (what can I say? I was a prodigy), the manipulation of school clothes to “sass” them up a bit (tucking the front tail of a tee through the neckline halter-style comes to mind), and of course my efforts to create a cohesive “look” based on my developing personality.
How dutifully I manned the mailbox -- knowing the exact date each and every issue would likely arrive. Much to my teachers’ amazement, the designers’ names and each of their perceived oeuvres were as readily accessible in my memory banks as those of history’s heroes and heroines. To my view, I saw no discernable difference. Our world is a better place by virtue of their environment-beautifying and edifying existence.
Never fear, the reviews, reveries and research from my penchant for periodicals were put to altruistic use. When classmates sought suggestions for knock-‘em-dead prom gowns, who do you think they came to see? When wedding dates were inked on calendars, whose advice on bridesmaids’ dresses was well-received by both brides and their maids alike? Red carpet recommendations? You get the pretty picture.
Memorable moments deserve design due-diligence.
Now, my own special circumstance dictates I direct my stylistic strategies self-ward. Admittedly, before this baby was even a twinkle-in-the-eye -- much less a bun in the oven -- this mama already knew numerous sources who’d be tapped to dress my blossoming body.
With approximately 40 weeks of growth, and perhaps as many weeks of post-partum womanliness to follow, pregnancy’s parabola of figure evolution offers fashion possibilities galore.
