Roamin’ Holiday

Sweet pseudo-sisters and fabulous bona-fide family alike, let it be known by way of preface: To be graced by the honor of your presence is a blessing I truly would not trade for the world. You know I heart you infinitely, as is evidenced by the constant state of communiqué in which we so endearingly exist; whether on our cells, talking and texting or on the Internet e-mailing and chatting, we are perpetually and perennially plugged in!

Subsisting in such a sustained state, sometimes a girl’s just got to get away -- which is why I am taking a timeless tip from Princess Ann in Roman Holiday and hitting the Eternal City for a most inspired interlude.

Ahh, “il dolce far niente,” the sweetness of doing nothing… It’s an approach to life that has become all but extinct nearly everywhere, perhaps save for idyllic Italy. Indeed, the Italians tackle daily obligations with a brand of categorical postponement that certainly makes any governmentally affiliated red-tape affair nearly impossible, but it also serves the soul well with a secluded respite nonpareil.

While many may make the pilgrimage to the Vatican for some spiritual healing, Via Veneto beckons to vindicate this Sister’s soul! There, I shall commence my frolic Fellini-style with a requisite romp at Harry’s Bar before shopping my way through Armani, Valentino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana -- all before Bruno Magli beckons, but of course!

Perhaps it’s born of divine inspiration -- or simply a fabulous food-induced delirium -- but when in Rome, there is certainly something that seduces the soul to stop, savor, and sip another Sangiovese!

Be you royalty, celebrity or full-time mama extraordinaire, Miss Audrey Hepburn’s darling dramatis persona is certainly not unlike that which we all so desperately desire -- to experience a pro-tem liberation from multitudinous mandates and just … do … absolutely … nothing.

Rome, if you want to, sweet sorelli mia -- arrivaderci!
