Summer’s In and We’re Out!
Prior to parenthood, no way and no how would such a degradation of personal panache as yard ornamentation ever be domestically discernable. Outdoor furniture? Totally tawdry. Garden…anything? Garish!
Sydney: Sleek. Streamlined. Stop.
And then along came Skye… Oh, sure, the first few months, I found myself magnificently adept at maintaining a converse-to-clutter existence, complete with a per diem pat on the back for such a seemingly unprecedented parental triumph. I know now I was simply far too Skye-smitten to see how my once-darling dwelling was devolving … depreciating into the caliber of abode I had made a life-pledge to elude.
Indeed, it wasn’t until Skye was approaching the big 0-1 that I found occasion to give pause to the playpen that I had previously called my posh pad. Coming down from the sleep-deprived and syrupy sweet delirium of Mamahood, chapter one, I found myself in the throes of a capitulation crisis: Either we made the most of our outdoor spaces or Sweet Skye’s stuff would soon envelop us with an unapologetic quickness.
Austere mamas-to-be and neonatal newbies alike: Do thy svelte selves a favor and embrace the plenteous plane of parenthood that will soon befall your exiguous existence. Get thee out of doors for a facet of family life that will unfurl with the magical beckon of summer’s sweet kiss.
For the uninitiated, I dare you to dine alfresco with Dad while watching your wee one get giddy with something as simple as a lawn sprinkler. And may I suggest, should that pretty little pagoda be luring you down an aisle in which you’ve never fathomed setting foot, just succumb, and you’ll see…
As any practiced parent will impart, necessity may be the mother of invention, but her offspring will often offer up a paradigmatic shift in sentience. Expanding a home’s horizon deck-ward and broadening living spaces to embrace the great outdoors will have an even more sweeping effect on your outlook.
It’s summertime, and the livin’ is easy, Sisters -- proceed to the patio!
