How fondly I remember the days when a simple stretch and morning cup of coffee (organic/fair trade, of course) got me charged for the whole morning. Or when a mere glass of Pinot Grigio paradoxically supplied the necessary energy and social lubrication for a few hours of high-pressure networking.
Now as a Mama, my shift is 24/7: I’m always on call. What fuels are effective – and more importantly, healthy – for invigorating an overworked mama through the never-ending (but always rewarding) tasks at hand?
Truth told – and my Mama pals will be shocked – in sheer desperation, I once (maybe twice) grabbed a tablespoon of pre-fab icing for a quick jolt. But that’s not what I want in my body or in my children’s minds as a viable energy solution. In those weary, weakened moments of running on fumes, try making your vapors aromatic. Surround yourself and fill your home with scents that rejuvenate and awaken, like grapefruit, peppermint or rosemary.
My mantra: Pass on pollutants and think cleansing. Cleansing breaths. Cleansing the spirit. Cleasing the body. Cleansing intake of all kinds. Nourish flagging senses with books, music, art, diet and people that awaken your joy and support your soul. (It’s nice if they change a few diapers, too!)
Farewell, fatigue (and frosting). Hello, healthful sustenance.
