Swag for My Sweetie
Father’s Day is lots of fun and Christmas may be cool, but the day my dear hubby was born simply can’t be beat. He always begs me off, saying he doesn’t care -- and I believe him -- but you know what? I care.
We multi-tasking moms have received some pretty good press lately, but what about our partners in crime, our partners in life? When my beloved’s b-day rolls around, I seize the chance to show my appreciation for everything he does to keep us grounded and sane and safe all year.
I know it’s not what you bought but the thought that counts, yet I’m always tempted to break the bank for the beautiful man who gave me Ben and my Baby-to-be... especially since this year’s a biggie for him. (Hint: the number ends in a zero and doesn’t start with a 2.)
First I ruled out skydiving lessons (too dangerous), a Roy Lichtenstein print (too big), a Rolex (too showy), an Eames office chair (too hard to wrap) and a 60-inch LCD TV (too offensive to my sensibilities). Then, I considered hiring a gift consultant, but that would filch the fun from an awesome opportunity to shop shop shop til I drop a bundle!
As the gifts I imagined giving got grander and grander, I took a step back. Crazy gadgets and blinged-out bijoux are fun, for sure, but this time I think I’ll present him with a present that simply celebrates his presence. Something that lets us reconnect, relax and relate -- a weekend away, maybe some art classes or, better yet, a couples’ massage... because sharing your joy with others really is the greatest gift of all!
XOXO
