PoshCravings - Allie

Pass It On
Intentional antique acquisition with Allie

Remember that game in grade school? A group of friends would form a circle or long line, and one individual would start by whispering a message to the next person, who’d then attempt to repeat it accurately to the next, and so on, and so on and so on.

Occasionally, the original communication would be so garbled by the time it reached the final recipient; all participating would share in a hearty laugh. In other instances, perhaps attributable to the import or intensity of the communiqué’s content, the last hearer would be able to recite the instigator’s words verbatim.

Undeniably, there’s something innately human about the desire to transmit an idea, thought or philosophy from one to another. Similarly, as members of a family, that compulsive yearning to give tangible tokens -- kin-connected treasures -- to our future generations is hard to resist.

My adulthood was made manifest when my mother handed me my grandmother’s hand-sequined Christmas tree skirt; my husband felt comparable maturity when given his beloved grandfather’s Louisville Slugger.

Naturally, I’ll bestow my babies with thorough documents of their lives -- both in word and image; but I also plan to procure items that reflect my eternal infatuation and adoration -- pieces they’ll be pleased to reveal to their children “came from Grandma Allie.”

Here’s to weaving heirlooms!
