Sweet Dreams Are Made of This
Sydney on October’s opportunities
Remember measuring time by the gaps between holidays? Admit it. You began the practice when you were three, and you still do it. It's okay. If we're honest, I'm guessing most of us do.
Now as a mom, imagining the traditional calendar's progress from my daughter Skye's perspective, it's an awfully long time between the 4th of July and Halloween. (Seriously, what little one truly appreciates Labor Day?)
Since we're confessing our quirks, of our mama foursome, I'm hands-down the biggest fan of a full-on celebration. As such, I've subjected my gal pals and their families to a panoply of "fill-in-the-blank" observances: a wake for Elvis (August 16th ), Teddy Bear Day (September 9th), Crush a Can Day (September 27th) and World Vegetarian Day (October 1st) to name just a few. Suffice it to say, we're more than ready to don our dress-ups and turn our 'trick or treat' on!
Moonlight and mummies. Glowsticks and goblins. Tarantulas and tooth decay. Perhaps Ray Parker, Jr. said it best, "I ain't afraid of no ghosts!"
Posh Mama Pop Quiz:
A flight attendant. A zookeeper. David Bowie (as Ziggy Stardust).
What do they have in common? (Go ahead and take a moment. I'm humming the ponder-time theme from Jeopardy...) Give up? They were all costume choices from my Halloweens past. And while I've yet to decide on my Halloween present, Annie Lennox' perfectly pumpkin colored hair does inspire some ideas...
Whether or not you celebrate National Good Neighbor Day (September 26th), you'd better make sure your distributable sweets are superlative this October 31st.
Boo!
