Golden Slumbers
Isabelle dreams of dozing
Pregnancy is a destination-focused journey...with side trips along the way for predictable pauses: morning sickness, belly expansion and ankle swelling to name a few. Regardless of the strains and speed bumps – and doesn't "bump" take on a whole new meaning – the 40-week expedition is one I've embarked upon joyously, with eyes wide open. And I do mean "eyes wide open" – sound slumbers are not easy to come by when you are the bearer of a bump!
Despite my plentiful pregnancy-related reading – and the generously dispensed, experience-earned insights from my mama pals – few of expectancy's peripherals have had the unexpected impact as severe sleepus interruptus.
Naturally, my driving aspiration is to meet my baby. Yet along the way I'd love to make the occasional visit to the Land of Nod. To Elysium. To Dreamland.
Preparation and products galore go toward ensuring Baby's sleep, and justly so. Yet my mission du jour is to make sure this mama-to-be gets her much-needed rest.
I need milk and Mendelssohn. Pillows and pampering. A recliner and a romantic movie. Dimmed lights and Daddy-to-be's hand.
Sleep, Baby, Sleep.
Mama will, too.
