Yule Be Glad You Did...
Eliza's statement on seasonal self-soothing
Valuables merit maintenance.
Cars are dutifully detailed. Prongs on engagement rings are checked regularly. Dresses are dry cleaned. Artisans, craftsmen, and designers perfect our homes. Silver is polished…even if just once a year. Yet for some inexplicable reason - even if only once a year - taking the time to individually regroup, revitalize, refocus, and rejuvenate regretfully requires justification. Reasons and rationales. Excuses and explanations. We feel obligated to offer a “why” for essential efforts toward personal preservation - fearing our search for solace and sanity amidst the seasonal chaos will be mistakenly misinterpreted as indefensible indulgence.
Finding yourself harried and haggard from holiday hardships? The duress of decking halls and donning apparel dragging you down?
Should old acquaintance (make that Mama maintenance) be forgot - say goodbye to guilt and listen to logic.
Conclude the calendar year by caring for and coddling the normally neglected - yourself.
Don’t wait for the Waterford crystal ball to drop in NYC before treating yourself to a taste of TLC. Resolutions are merely belated, “better-luck-next-year” reactionary responses to the self-depriving and self-disciplinary disappointments of the preceding year. Proactivity prohibits procrastination. Maternal mojo mandates moving toward magnificence.
So go ahead and wrap those holiday presents with packaging so precious it’s simply sinful to remove. And do the same for yourself.
Happy Holidays, Honeys-
