Allie talks travel tips

Flexibility, yes. Indolence, no. Rolling inertly with the flow doesn’t necessarily equate relaxation when journeying from Point A to Point B. In this season of en masse excursions, be kinetically proactive. Strategically eliminate potential stressors and reap a harvest of happy holiday trails.

Approach trip coordination with thoughtful commitment similar to that used in developing a birth plan. Bear in mind the players, the personalities, the preferences.

Obviously traveling can be -- and often is -- fraught with the unexpected, the unavoidable and the unpredictable. Don’t come unglued. Like tipsy Uncle Nick at your wedding, or the labor that lasted hours longer than anticipated, the imperfections -- with the passage of time, if some healing or regrouping is
needed -- provide amusing fodder for your family’s folklore.

Yes, necessary travails need to occur; but the joyous moment of arrival -- and the extended afterglow -- makes it all worthwhile.

The Stork’s generosity with our family has mandated extensive pre-vacation coordination. (Did you know two lap-sitters under age two cannot fly in the same row? Valuable tidbit!) We now do more preliminary legwork when we travel with Mai and Ringo; and as a result, we find we’re able to enjoy our treks with negligible in-transit discomfort -- for us, or our fellow travelers.

Say farewell to frenzy, and welcome winter wanderlust.
